The Town of Cynthiana is a close-knit community located in Posey County, Indiana. Known for its welcoming atmosphere and strong sense of neighborly pride, Cynthiana is a place where tradition meets progress.

Many of these sites have served generations of residents—hosting community events, celebrations, and everyday moments that continue to shape life in Cynthiana today.
Our History
On September 25th, 1815, a group of 44 settlers from Cynthiana, Ky started a journey that took them to the state of Indiana, settling on land roughly 25 miles north of the Indiana/Kentucky border. On March 6,1817, after more travelers had settled in the area, William Davis laid out the town boundaries. Shortly after, on March 17, 1817, the territory was formerly recorded. After many years and more settlers inhabited the territory, the town of Cynthiana, Indiana was incorporated on April 22, 1896. The town was named after the settlers hometown of Cynthiana, Kentucky.
